Effective jack russell terrier training isn’t achieved with one training tactic alone. In fact, an owner has a lot of training options to take into consideration in order to make successful training happen. One is the use of hand signals in combination with the verbal instructions.

Being a particularly intelligent breed, a jack russell terrier is quite observant of the human’s body language, movements and even psychological state. One may feel sad or depressed if the owner feels the same or will certainly get ecstatic if he sense the excitement in his owner’s voice and movements.

Here are some reasons why it’s best to consider training your pet to be familiar with hand signals:

  • Although you always want your canine friend to keep close to you, you cannot avoid the fact that he may need to run off on occasions – whether to get the ball, run after someone, hunt in the field or do the agility course. The space can certainly make it hard for your dog to hear your verbal command but with hand gesture, you can be at ease knowing that you can still control and keep him safe.
  • Your hunting dog will always look up on you as to what should be done with the quarry he has trapped. You can use hand signals to inform him whether to hold in place or bolt the groundhog, badger or other animals he has captured.
  • When working with hand signals during dog training, you can be certain that your pet is focused on you realizing that he must watch out for your signals and commands.
  • A dog with hearing impairment can be trained using this method.
  • Noisy places like busy streets and park can make it difficult for your jack russell terrier to hear your verbal commands. But so long as you are within the viewing range of your dog, you can still direct him of what he needs to do specifically during dangerous instances.
