If Your Children Want A Dog Remember It Needs Training
All children love pets and they would love to have a dog if their parents will let them. A lot of kids parents can only think of all the trouble a dog could cause them. Parents often give in to the constant pressure but it may take the kids some time to convince them.
Having decided on getting a new dog you need to think about the type or breed of dog you would like to get. You may find your local dog rescue center has a selection of dogs they would like to find homes for.
Finally you have your new dog at home and the first thing it might do is make a mess on your carpet. Suddenly you begin to understand you must start dog house training. Most dogs avoid messing near their beds because they are clean animals so show the right area for their potty to them.
Your new dog does not yet know what is right or wrong and it is probably nervous as well. Take your puppy to the potty area if it looks uncomfortable but give it lots of reassurance. Reward your dog when he does his potty properly and give him a lot of affectionate stroking.
Your dog will need a lot of reminding and practice but they are usually pretty quick to learn things. Accidents will happen and you must not get angry so try to be very patient with your puppy.
Make sure your puppy can easily get to the potty are you have chosen so he can go if he wants to. If he succeeds show how well he has done by giving a lot of affection and tell him he is a good dog. He will soon learn that he is popular when he goes in the right place and there will be fewer and fewer mistakes.
Once your dog is house trained you can move on to other training. Your kids will have a great time teaching your new puppy how to sit. Your kids will enjoy teaching your dog and can play together for hours.
When your dog is trained to sit and stay on command you can develop the training to include other, more complicated, lessons. You should teach your dog to walk properly on a leash by teaching it to walk to heel.
You don’t want a dog that suddenly runs off so teach it to ignore things it sees or smells. All the smells around will attract your dogs attention but he must stay with you unless you tell him otherwise.
Some people love dogs but not everyone does so you must train your dog not to jump up at visitors and strangers in the street. If you love having your dog lick your face remember that other people would hate it.
Becoming a dog owner has rewards but also responsibilities and you take on the duty of care when you get a dog. Your dog must obey your commands so you can prevent it being a nuisance to other people. It’s a good feeling to have a well trained dog and other people will respect you for teaching it well.
